DEPARTURES ON APRIL 25th TASTE OF DALMATIA

You will start with a pleasant bus ride along the Adriatic coastline and the first stop will be made in the small village of Orasac. In the charming village of Orasac take part in the production of olive oil the old fashioned way with a horse turning the mill. Here you will also have the opportunity to taste some homemade cheese, smoked ham and wine in an old fashioned house which has not changed much through the ages.

After visiting Orasac Village you will continue towards the small town of Ston which is the “oysters capital” of Croatia. This little town is often called a smaller copy of Dubrovnik. Especially interesting are the magnificent 5 km long walls surrounding the town. It is one of the longest defensive walls in the world. Interesting are also the ancient salt pans that were in use during the Dubrovnik Republic. Salt is still produced here. After visiting Ston, enjoy a walk along the seaside in the town of Mali Ston with a magnificent view on the oyster and mussel farms and taste the famous seafood served on a platter in one of the local restaurants. ADRIATIC EXPERIENCE - Orasac, Ston and Peljesac

On our way to Ston we will make a first Stop at village of Orasac and visit Dubelj family house. Host will present us the traditional mill and serve us a welcome drink. One of our excursion highlights is Ston with its 5-kilometre long walls, a city built in the 15th century according to a plan with a rectangular scheme of streets and squares. Ston is renowned for its delicious oysters and mussels that we recommend you to taste in one of the local restaurants. Another landmark of Ston is its old salt ponds where the salt is still gathered today in the old way.

We continue to the Arboretum in Trsteno with a 15th century summer residence of the Dubrovnik patrician family Gucetic-Gozze surrounded by a beautiful Renaissance garden. The tour starts with a drive to Orebic where we will take a ferry for Korcula. Marco Polo has a vast historical heritage traveling more than 15'000 miles and inspiring generations pioneers to discover unknown lands. Other explorers before him had changed the geography of the world – Marco Polo changed its history. Interestingly, many sources suggest that Korcula is the town, where he was born around 1254. The island of Korcula undoubtedly holds a privileged position among the Croatian islands. It is full of legends, tales and monuments.

Once we arrived on the island, we will start our day trip, by discovering the picturesque old town of Korcula, the main town of the Island. It is a unique experience to walk in the narrow streets, beautiful churches and magnificent palaces, of what is considered to be one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean. Being famous stonemasons, shipbuilders and seafarers, the people of Korcula left their marks all over the world, but they saved their best works for their own city.

After our sightseeing trip in the old town of Korcula, you will have some free time. On our way back to Dubrovnik, we will make a stop in one of the well known wine cellars of the Peljesac peninsula, in order to sample some of the excellent local wine.

TRADITIONAL KONAVLE - History, Tradition and Culture

Konavle - a place in the very south of Croatia, is the most southern part of today's Dubrovnik Riviera, with whose purchase the Dubrovnik Republic rounded off its territory in the 15th century. The preserved natural, unique and exceptionally precious rural architecture, numerous monuments of the thousand-year-old history of this area, traditions that are hundreds of years old and have been kept through folklore, the distinctive traditional costumes of Konavle and the Konavle embroidery.

Our first stop will be in town Cavtat, the antique Epidaurus, that was an important Roman colony in this region. We will visit the birth house of Vlaho Bukovac, one of the most famous Croatian painters and the forefather of the Croatian modern painting.

Our next visit is Konavle Country house, the museum that holds about 500 items such as male and female folk costumes of the highest quality, embroidery and other textile handcrafts, jewellery, arms, musical instruments and items used in the everyday life. After the museum visit, we drive towards the watermills and stamp mills on river Ljuta, where we will have presentation, followed by the traditional lunch. The last stop will be the house of the famous naive-art painter in the village of Mihanici.
